District and federal officials are preparing for as many as 4 million people for the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama, a crowd that would be three or four times larger than previous big events on the Mall.
Only a fraction of those people will be close enough to get a good look at the action. But officials are planning extra JumboTrons at the Mall and along the inaugural parade route so that spectators can feel a part of the historic day.

I thought MAYBE it would be fun to go see it, but with 4 million people that close together? I have NO intention.

I’m still planning to go and I’ve promised my kids I’ll take them, but now I’m a little nervous about taking them into such a crowd.

My mom’s going and we used to live in DC so she’s very familiar with the area.

That’s good! I was going to say that if you were going alone with them, that I would go with you. For protection! LOLOLOL

I don’t think there will be quite that many, and they have opened the entire Mall for viewing – there will be jumbotrons everywhere.

I heard that 60,000 people have volunteered to help with the inauguration. And someone (I think it was Emmy), mentioned that a local potter will be making the china for the event, that’s cool.
